Nuggets' Murray Nears $209M Extension; Caldwell-Pope Opts for Free Agency

Jamal Murray and the Denver Nuggets are in discussions for a four-year, $209-million maximum contract extension, according to sources reported by The Athletic's Shams Charania.

In a related development, Nuggets guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is declining his $15.4-million player option for the 2024-25 season to enter free agency, as reported by Charania and Tony Jones.

Both players were instrumental in the Nuggets' first championship win in 2023.

In the past season, Murray posted averages of 21.2 points, 6.5 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1 steal across 59 games. Caldwell-Pope recorded averages of 10.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.3 steals in 76 games, shooting 40.6% from three-point range and making 1.6 three-pointers per game.

The Nuggets' season concluded in the second round, where they were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Additionally, Denver acquired former Dayton center DaRon Holmes II in the first round of the draft on Wednesday night.
