Manchester United have extended Erik ten Hag's contract by triggering a one-year extension, keeping him at the club until 2026. The Dutchman, who joined from Ajax in 2022, was set to conclude his initial deal in 2025.

Ten Hag, 54, expressed his satisfaction with the agreement, stating, "I am very pleased to have reached agreement with the club to continue working together."

Under Ten Hag's leadership, United secured two trophies in two years, ending a six-year trophy drought with a Carabao Cup over Newcastle and claiming an FA Cup triumph against Manchester City.

Despite a challenging second season, which saw United finish eighth in the and exit the Champions League group stages, a pivotal FA Cup win solidified Ten Hag's position.

Following co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe's investment and subsequent board restructuring, United reviewed the team's performance, engaging with potential replacements for Ten Hag before reaffirming their commitment to him.

Sporting director Dan Ashworth emphasized the club's ambitions, stating, "With our strengthened football leadership team now in place, we are looking forward to working hand-in-hand with Erik to achieve our shared goals."

United is currently in discussions with Ten Hag to restructure his coaching staff, including the anticipated return of Ruud van Nistelrooy and the addition of Rene Hake.

Former technical director Christopher Vivell has also joined United as director of global talent on a short-term basis to assist during the current transfer window.
