Free-agent point guard has decided to sign with the San Antonio Spurs, according to TNT's Chris Haynes.

Sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that Paul will ink a one-year deal worth over $11 million with San Antonio.

Paul, 39, opted to join the Spurs shortly after being waived by the Golden State Warriors, who released him just before the Sunday deadline to guarantee his $30 million salary for the upcoming season.

In San Antonio, Paul is expected to serve as a mentor for reigning Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama on a young Spurs team aiming for improvement. The Spurs have recorded 22-60 records in each of the last two seasons and have not made the since 2019.

The 19-year NBA veteran spent just one season with the Warriors, having been acquired from the Washington Wizards in July of last year. During his stint with Golden State, Paul averaged a career-low 9.2 points in 58 games (18 starts) and posted 6.8 assists per game, his lowest average in four years.

Golden State and Paul had previously agreed to extend the deadline for his guaranteed salary from Friday to Sunday while the team explored trade options. A potential trade that would have sent him back to the in exchange for Paul George was reportedly considered but ultimately did not materialize.

With Paul no longer on their roster, the Warriors' payroll now stands at approximately $147 million, significantly below the tax threshold of $171.3 million, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.
