The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly prepared to extend LeBron James with a lucrative three-year maximum contract, ensuring his tenure with the team through his 24th NBA season, sources have informed ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

James' prospective contract is expected to total approximately $160 million. He faces a decision on his $51.4-million player option for the 2024-25 season, with a deadline set for June 29.

Under NBA regulations, James, aged 39, is restricted to a maximum three-year deal due to the Over 38 Rule, which limits contract lengths for players in his age bracket.

The timing of James' decision coincides with the NBA Draft, where his son Bronny James is a hopeful prospect. Bronny has undertaken workouts with both the Lakers and the Phoenix , while the Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Toronto Raptors have also shown interest in the former USC guard.

During the past season, LeBron James maintained impressive statistics, averaging 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds across 71 games, securing his third consecutive selection to the All-NBA third team.

Despite consistent from James and teammate Anthony Davis, the Lakers endured an early playoff exit in the first round at the hands of the Denver .

Following the postseason disappointment, the Lakers opted for a coaching change, parting ways with Darvin Ham and appointing JJ Redick, a first-time coach and a primary target in their plans, according to general manager Rob Pelinka.
