Scottie Barnes to Sign 5-Year, $270M Extension with Raptorsillustration

, the All-Star forward for the Toronto Raptors, is set to ink a five-year maximum rookie extension worth up to $270 million, sources confirmed to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The reported deal will secure Barnes with Toronto through the 2029-30 season, making him the highest-paid player in Raptors history. The signing is scheduled for July 6, coinciding with the end of the NBA's free-agency moratorium.

Barnes, 22, is guaranteed a minimum of $224.9 million over the contract, as per Keith Smith of Spotrac. His earnings could rise to 30% of the Raptors' cap if he achieves All-NBA, All-Defensive team honors, or wins the award.

After his first All-Star selection, Barnes concluded the 2023-24 season with averages of 19.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.3 steals over 60 games. His season ended prematurely due to a hand fracture in March, causing him to miss the final 22 games as the Raptors ended the season with a 25-57 record, missing the playoffs for a second consecutive year.

Selected fourth overall in the 2021 draft from Florida State, Barnes claimed Rookie of the Year honors after averaging 15.3 points in his debut season, guiding the Raptors to a postseason appearance.

Toronto faces decisions with impending free agents including starting point guard Immanuel Quickley and wing Gary Trent Jr.
