James Maddison Excluded from England's Euro 2024 Squad

James Maddison Excluded from England's Euro 2024 Squadillustration

James Maddison will not be part of England's 26-man squad for Euro 2024. The Tottenham midfielder was initially included in Gareth Southgate's provisional 33-man selection.

Maddison made an appearance in England's friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday, coming off the bench in the 3-0 victory at St James' Park. However, he is among the seven players who will be excluded when the final squad is announced on Saturday.

The 27-year-old, who has earned seven senior England caps, was included in Southgate's squad for the 2022 World Cup, though he did not play in Qatar.

After moving to Tottenham in a £40 million from Leicester last summer, Maddison experienced an inconsistent season. Despite a strong start, his performance was hindered by injuries.

Southgate still has to cut six more players from the squad heading to Germany for Euro 2024. The final squad will be announced on Saturday, following England's last warm-up friendly against Iceland at Wembley the previous night.

One player not ruled out is left-back Luke Shaw, who returned to training on Wednesday after a prolonged layoff.
