Juventus Stages Remarkable Comeback to Draw with Bologna in Post-Allegri Era
In their first match following the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri, Juventus showcased resilience by rallying from a 3-0 deficit to secure a 3-3 draw against Bologna in Serie A on Monday.
Allegri's departure came in the wake of his outburst toward referees during the Italian Cup final, leading to his dismissal on Friday. Pablo Montero, the Under-19 coach, took charge for Juve's final two matches of the season.
Bologna, currently positioned third, and Juventus, fourth on goal difference, had both already secured qualification for the upcoming Champions League season, yet displayed an intense competitive edge.
Riccardo Calafiori's brace propelled a commanding Bologna to a 3-0 lead, seemingly on course for their first home victory over Juventus in 26 years.
However, Juventus initiated their comeback with 14 minutes remaining in regular time, kickstarting with Federico Chiesa's goal. Arkadiusz Milik added to the tally from a free-kick within eight minutes, followed by the equalizer from Kenan Yildiz, the promising 19-year-old forward.
In a breakout season, Yildiz made his debut for Juventus, becoming their youngest foreign scorer. He also debuted and scored for the Turkish national team bound for the European Championship.
In another Serie A fixture, Verona secured their top-flight status for another season with a 2-1 victory over Salernitana.
Marco Baroni's Verona side now sit four points clear of the relegation zone with one match remaining. Salernitana and Sassuolo have already been relegated, leaving Udinese, Empoli, Frosinone, and Cagliari battling to avoid the drop.
Verona's timely win, their third in five games, sets them up for a final league encounter against champions Inter Milan, who have suffered only two defeats this season.
Tomas Suslov opened the scoring for Verona, with Darko Lazović providing the assist for Michael Folorunsho's close-range finish on the stroke of halftime.
