Neuer and Kroos Included in Germany's Provisional Euro 2024 Squadillustration

Germany has announced its provisional squad for the upcoming Euro 2024, with seasoned veterans Manuel Neuer and Toni Kroos securing spots for a potential fourth European Championship appearance.

Despite initially retiring from international duty in July 2021, midfielder Kroos, 34, made a comeback decision in March after discussions with head coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Neuer, 38, who last played for Germany in 2022 before suffering a leg injury following the Qatar World Cup, returns to contention for the tournament.

However, Bayern Munich's Leon Goretzka and Serge are notable absentees from the 27-man squad, along with Tottenham's Timo Werner, sidelined due to a hamstring injury.

Despite their pivotal roles in Borussia Dortmund's journey to the Champions League final, Mats Hummels and Julian Brandt have been left out of the initial squad, which will be trimmed to 26 players following Germany's friendlies against Ukraine and Greece in June.

The roster features former Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, Arsenal's Kai Havertz, and Brighton's Pascal Gross among the selected players.

Germany, aiming to improve on their recent tournament performances, kick off their Euro 2024 campaign on June 14 against in Munich.
