Lorenzo Musetti Advances to First Wimbledon Semifinal, Set to Face Novak Djokovic

Lorenzo Musetti described it as a "magic day" following his five-set victory over Taylor Fritz, securing his first Wimbledon semifinal berth where he will meet seven-time champion Novak Djokovic.

The Italian rallied from a set and break down to defeat Fritz 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in a gripping quarter-final match.

After the win, Musetti reflected, "After the birth of my son, I will put this in the second position. Of course, for my career, it is the best day of my life."

Djokovic progressed to the semifinals after Alex de Minaur withdrew due to a hip injury.

Musetti holds a challenging record against Djokovic, winning only one of their six encounters, including recent losses in the French Open.

Facing Djokovic at Wimbledon, Musetti acknowledged him as a "legend, especially here," anticipating a tough match but expressing his ambition for the challenge.

Taylor Fritz, who had been in good form, lost in his fourth Grand Slam quarter-final.

Musetti's achievement adds to Italian tennis success, with Jannik Sinner as the current top-ranked player and Matteo Berrettini reaching the 2021 final.
