Manchester United Erik revealed that his summer holiday in Ibiza was unexpectedly interrupted by club management, who flew out to express their desire for him to continue in his role.

Speaking to Dutch TV channel NOS, Ten Hag recounted the interruption: "The club management came to me while I was on holiday in Ibiza. They suddenly showed up on my doorstep and told me they wanted to continue with me."

This development follows uncertainty surrounding Ten Hag's future despite his recent success. United, finishing eighth in the Premier League last season, opted to retain the Dutchman after his successful campaign culminating in FA Cup victory.

"Manchester United have told me that they spoke with Tuchel, but they eventually came to the conclusion that they already have the best manager," Ten Hag added.

The decision to retain Ten Hag reportedly involved discussions with other candidates, including former Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel, amid evaluations by new co-owner 's Ineos group.

Reflecting on his achievements in his debut season, Ten Hag secured third place in the Premier League along with appearances in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals. The subsequent season saw United clinch the EFL Cup under his leadership in 2023.

Despite the backing from the United board, Ten Hag confirmed ongoing negotiations for a new contract, stating, "Manchester United and I still have to find an agreement for the new contract. This isn't easily done - we are still going to have to talk about this."

The discussions highlight the club's efforts to stabilize under Ten Hag's leadership following a challenging season and amidst ongoing strategic evaluations by the new ownership.
