Emre Can Steps in for Injured Pavlovic in Germany's Euro 2024 Squad
Aleksandar Pavlovic, the 20-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder, has been replaced by Emre Can in Germany's Euro 2024 squad due to tonsillitis, confirmed coach Julian Nagelsmann.
Pavlovic, who debuted for the national team on June 3 in a 0-0 draw with Ukraine, was initially included in Nagelsmann's final squad for the tournament. However, he missed Germany's recent 2-1 victory over Greece and has been compelled to withdraw from the squad because of his illness.
"We wanted to have another player in the squad who has played a lot of games, who knows how to deal with the pressure," stated Nagelsmann regarding the decision to bring in Can.
Emre Can, the 30-year-old former Liverpool midfielder, boasts 43 appearances for Germany. He was selected ahead of Bayern Munich's Leon Goretzka to replace Pavlovic.
Germany, the tournament hosts, will commence their Euro 2024 campaign against Scotland on June 14 in Munich at 20:00 BST.
