Olivier Giroud Bids Farewell to French National Team Post Euro 2024
AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud has revealed his intention to retire from international duty with the French national team following Euro 2024.
Giroud, who holds the record for the most goals scored for France with 57 goals in 131 appearances, was a crucial member of the squad that clinched the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
In an interview with L'Equipe, Giroud stated, "This will be my last competition with Les Bleus. I'm going to miss it a lot. We need to make way for the youngsters. You also have to be careful not to have one season too many. You have to find the right balance."
Despite not registering a goal or a shot on target in the 2018 World Cup, Giroud showcased his scoring prowess in the 2022 edition, netting four goals, including a decisive strike against England in the quarter-finals, where France ultimately fell to Argentina in the final on penalties.
The 37-year-old forward is set to make his final appearance for AC Milan against Salernitana on the concluding day of the Serie A season. With his contract expiring next month, Giroud has already secured a move to Major League Soccer outfit Los Angeles FC after Euro 2024.
Giroud has inked an 18-month deal with the American club, with the option of extending for an additional year.
