Marcus Rashford has been omitted from Gareth Southgate's provisional 33-man squad for Euro 2024, with the Manchester United forward's underwhelming season cited as the reason.

Notable absentees include Jordan Henderson and Reece James, while Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton receives his debut call-up following an impressive season finish.

Uncapped players Jarrad Branthwaite, Jarell Quansah, and Curtis Jones bolster Southgate's defensive options.

England, considered one of the favorites, will face Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland before the tournament in Germany.

Rashford, having scored eight goals in 42 appearances for United, misses his first major international tournament since 2014.

In response to his exclusion, Rashford stated, "Wishing Gareth and the boys all the best."

Injuries hindered Henderson's chances despite his move to Ajax, with Southgate explaining, "The determining factor was the injury he picked up in the last camp."

Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling, and Kalvin Phillips were also overlooked, while the squad includes talents such as Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and Bukayo Saka.

England's journey to secure their first major tournament win in 58 years begins against Serbia in Group C, following near-misses in previous tournaments.

Southgate remains cautiously optimistic, stating, "Are we one of those teams who can win? Of course... but if I said yes, that doesn't mean there's not a lot of work ahead of us."
